C4 = MIDI 60. Leave gaps for rests. Enter tied notes as one long note. Changes are saved as MIDI.

Quick guide

1. Select a song and press Play. Use M to mute tracks and S to solo them. You can change instruments, volume, and tempo at any time.

2. Import MIDI or MusicXML files, or select PDF pages. Book mode processes songs in sequence; use page ranges to set song boundaries. All generated clips appear directly in the library.

3. Organize your songs and give them star ratings. Collection, mixer, and tempo settings are saved automatically. Export all tracks or just the audible mix.

4. Enable Follow score to highlight recognized notes during playback. Click a note to jump to it. Scrolling manually during playback disables auto-follow; enable it again when needed. Manually editing notes removes their position mapping.

The Django Fakebook is read directly from vector symbols. Playback follows the printed order; repeats and jumps are not expanded. Audiveris is designed for engraved scores. Handwritten Real Book notation may not be recognized completely.

Melody sounds: Nylon Guitar for clarity, Vibraphone for a soft jazz tone, or Voice Oohs for singing along. Choir Aahs sounds like a vocal choir. Vocal instruments do not sing words.

Accompaniment: Choose Basic or Voice Leading under Chord progression, and a chord rhythm below the playback controls. Voice leading keeps common tones and minimizes jumps. Suggested tempos come from score markings or a suitable practice arrangement; the source is shown beside the player.

External instruments: Choose an output and channel for each track under MIDI outputs. Optionally enable internal monitoring and send a GM program. Use the same channel on the receiving device. Panic stops external notes; Refresh devices detects newly connected interfaces. Score focus gives the score more space.

Sounds: FluidR3 GM, Frank Wen / S. Christian Collins; MP3 samples by Benjamin Gleitzman, CC BY 3.0. Eight local sampled instruments; unsupported GM sounds are identified and substituted on import. Original scores support synchronized highlighting for Django vector imports and recognized Real Book noteheads.

Export MIDI

The export includes your instruments, tempo, and volume settings. Choose which tracks to include.

MIDI outputs

Route each track to a connected MIDI interface or virtual MIDI port. Select the same channel on the receiving device. MIDI transmits notes, not audio.

“Send GM program” sends a Program Change when playback starts. When disabled, the device keeps its selected sound. Routing is saved per song; external playback requires an available output.
